Our Roots

In 2018, Freida Hecht founded Crumb Together Bakery in Norwalk, CT.

Freida has been the founding executive director of the Circle of Friends since 2004 providing inclusive social programming for children and teens with special needs. In 2018, she identified an unmet need of better acclimating the young adults in her program into their adult life.

 Mrs. Hecht decided to create a bakery to teach these young adults professional baking skills and provide them with employment opportunities. She secured space from the commercial kitchen at the  Beth Israel Chabad synagogue. She recruited professional bakers, a job coach, and a group of volunteers.

Twenty four months later, Crumb Together Bakery was up and running. Currently 14 young adults are student bakers and the bakery is accepting applications for its next class.
